The Postgraduate Qualifying Programme (PQP)

About PQP:

MC PQP aims to prepare students, who would not normally be considered qualified, to an appropriate level for entry into Muscat College Postgraduate programmes. The programme specifically intends to enhance students; portable, academic English and study skills required for success in a university setting at the postgraduate level.

PQP Programme Learning Objectives:

PLO1

Apply a set of skills and strategies to listen to an extended passage or academic lecture and demonstrate understanding of topic and ability to take notes effectively.

PLO2

Apply a set of skills and strategies using an appropriate level of vocabulary and structures to start and engage in extended conversations or discussions.

PLO3

Implement effective reading skills and strategies to deal with a variety of academic texts.

PLO4

Apply a set of skills and strategies using an appropriate level of vocabulary and structures to accurately write texts of various styles on different topics and academic genres structures to accurately write texts of various styles on different topics and academic genres

PLO5

Apply foundational research skills to identify physical and digital reliable sources and use them to draft a piece of writing with due acknowledgment of sources.

PLO6

Independently plan, prepare, and deliver an academic presentation using information from online search engines and digital resources.

Think independently and make personal assumptions based on evidence

PLO8

Recognize key insights into collaborative and independent learning and working approaches

PLO9

Personalize learning by reflecting on what they learn, how they learn and set appropriate goals for effective learning.

Programme Structure and Duration:

The postgraduate Qualifying Programme is made up of two levels:

  • PQPL1: Level 1 – 12 weeks open for applicants with a score of 5.0 in IELTS
  • PQPL2: Level 2 – 8 weeks open for applicants with a score of 5.5 in IELTS

Upon successful completion of the programme, students receive a Certificate of Completion which allows them to join any Master’s programme in Muscat College or in any other university or college in the Sultanate of Oman.

Entry Requirements:

Admission to the PQP is open to:

– Applicants with an IELTS band 5.0-5.5
– Applicants who successfully completed PQP1 at any other higher education institution in Oman.
